Why Xoom?

John and his volunteers regularly check different ways of receiving money in Rwanda, but it is way more complicated than in other countries. Many classic money transfer options are not working in Rwanda (for now). Many NGO's in Rwanda have a foreign bank account in their neighbor's countries such as Kenya or Uganda.

If you have any ideas to improve our process, please let us know by reaching out to us! We want to make it as easy as possible for you. So far the easiest and cheapest working way we found is Xoom.

Does IBAN work in Rwanda?

No, Rwanda does not use the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) system for domestic transactions. Instead, banks in Rwanda typically use standard local account numbers for domestic transfers. For international transactions, it’s more common to use SWIFT codes or other methods suitable for sending money to Rwandan banks. If you're sending money to Rwanda, it’s best to check with the recipient's bank for the correct format and requirements.

Does PayPal work in Rwanda?

As of now, PayPal does not fully operate in Rwanda. While you can send payments through PayPal, receiving money and using other features may be limited. It’s always a good idea to check the latest updates directly on PayPal's website, as availability can change.

Does Wise work in Rwanda?

As of now, Wise does not fully operate in Rwanda. While you can send payments through Wise, receiving money and using other features may be limited. It’s always a good idea to check the latest updates directly on Wise's website, as availability can change.

Do WU or Revolut work in Rwanda?

It depends. For some accounts it seems to be working. But the down sights are high fees and the fact that not everybody has an account.

Backup Option: PayPal to one of our Volunteers

If you are having trouble using Xoom, you can still donate: Simply PayPal the donation to our volunteer Nauana, who will transfer your donation to John. She will be using her Revolut card, which will result in deducting a small percentage of fees:
