John and his volunteers regularly check different ways of receiving money in Rwanda, but it is way more complicated than in other countries. Many classic money transfer options are not working in Rwanda (for now). Many NGO's in Rwanda have a foreign bank account in their neighbor's countries such as Kenya or Uganda.

If you have any ideas to improve our process, please let us know by reaching out to us! We want to make it as easy as possible for you.

Does IBAN work in Rwanda?

No, Rwanda does not use the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) system for domestic transactions. Instead, banks in Rwanda typically use standard local account numbers for domestic transfers. For international transactions, it’s more common to use SWIFT codes or other methods suitable for sending money to Rwandan banks. If you're sending money to Rwanda, it’s best to check with the recipient's bank for the correct format and requirements.
